A young unemployed Logan father was “lucky he didn’t kill himself” after he rolled his car a short distance from a popular pub while more than three times the legal blood-alcohol limit, a court has heard.

Logan Central man Jarred Maxwell McKenzie, 23, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday to one count of driving under the influence of liquor.

The court heard the crash occurred about 1.30am on January 3 this year.

McKenzie had been at the Jacobs Well Bayside Tavern when he left at an unknown time.

His Nissan Pulsar failed to take a bend on Pimpama Jacobs Well Rd near the intersection of Huth Rd, about 1.8km from the pub, and as a result the vehicle rolled into a ditch.

Police were dispatched to Gold Coast University Hospital, where McKenzie returned a BAC reading of 0.177 per cent.

McKenzie told the court he was “stupid to get in” his car, but felt he had no choice after he was ejected from the pub following a stoush with the publican, who told him to “piss off”.

“It scared the shit out of me,” McKenzie said.

“I wish I didn’t do it.”

He told the court he received stitches to his face and suffered sciatic nerve damage as a result of his crash.

“You’re lucky you didn’t kill yourself,” Magistrate Clare Kelly told him.

He was fined $800 and disqualified from driving for six months.
