A young Logan man has faced court for attempting to run over his girlfriend with a car during a chaotic argument that got out of hand.

Jack Donnelly Griffith pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 23 to dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving without a licence.

The court heard that on November 14, 2022 the 23-year-old Tanah Merah man attempted to drive over his girlfriend and their friend in Shailer Park, following an argument.

The victim dodged out of the way of the car and suffered an injury to her ankle and scratches.

Magistrate Ron Kilner said using a car in this fashion was no different to using a weapon.

“A person who is operating a vehicle the way you did, is really operating a dangerous weapon,” he said.

“It is no different to a gun or knife, it can have absolutely disastrous consequences.”

Griffith was sentenced to 18 months probation and must attend counselling and anger management treatment.

No conviction was recorded.
