A 21-year-old Meadowbrook man has fronted court for the first time after allegedly repeatedly stabbing his neighbour with a hunting knife following a violent road rage incident.
Hamish Jordan Conor Glasby, 21, appeared in custody at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
The court heard the Glasby had allegedly been tailgating a car along Edenlea Dr, Meadowbrook when the 25-year-old male driver pulled over to confront him and a dispute broke out on Tuesday night.
Police allege Glasby used a hunting knife he kept in his vehicle to repeatedly stab the man.
The victim allegedly received three stab wounds, which included one that was about 25cm deep.
The court heard the victim was still in hospital on Wednesday and had required emergency surgery for a punctured lung and perforated liver.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Darrel Armfield said the men weren’t directly known to each other but had lived in the same area in Meadowbrook.
Magistrate John Costanzo said the allegations involved a “bizarre set of circumstances” that had ended in “unexplained, severe violence”.
Glasby’s lawyer told the court the allegations and facts of the matter are contested.
“I’ve been instructed there were further witnesses in and around that area that did witness the actions occur, however they witness it occurs in a completely different way,” she said.
“Obviously that will come out when the brief (of evidence) is prepared and provided.”
The court heard Glasby had a minor criminal history and was employed as a warehouse facilities manager at Harvey Norman.
But Magistrate John Costanzo denied his application for bail after he determined cause had not been shown on why his custody wasn’t justified and he said there was an unacceptable risk for him to reoffend.
Glasby was remanded in custody until his next committal mention date on January 19.
