A 39-year-old Logan man accused of threatening to kill his partner for trying to leave him allegedly picked up a chainsaw and said there would be a “bloodbath.”
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in custody at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with five domestic violence-related offences including common assault, wilful damage and contravention of a domestic violence order.
The court heard the 39-year-old had been drinking when his partner arrived at his address in Waterford on November 14.
Magistrate Terry Duroux said after the pair exchanged some words, it is alleged the man picked up a chainsaw and told the woman’s son that there would be a “bloodbath”.
“The allegation is then that there has been an attempt to punch the aggrieved,” he said.
“It would appear on the statement that the aggrieved was trying to dissociate herself from (the man).
“It seems as though that is the trigger which has upset (the man) who allegedly said words to the effect of: If they come here, I’ll kill them all.”
Magistrate Duroux said he found the allegations to be “completely disturbing” and at the higher end of the scale for this type of offending.
The man’s lawyer told the court he dispute a number of the charges and some of the allegations levelled against him.
He was denied bail due to an unacceptable risk to reoffend and was remanded in custody until his matters are mentioned again on.
