The former principal, Paul Thomson, was sacked from the college in June along with his wife Jennifer Thomson, daughter Amy and her husband Kevin Ferguson, amid allegations of financial mismanagement.
Mr Johnson has some history in the Logan area, once teaching at John Paul College earlier in his career as well as three other Queensland state high schools.
He said he was looking forward to taking up his new post at the college.
“I am very keen to be part of the next phase of development for Kimberley College,” he said.
“(I) look forward to joining the school in 2019 and becoming an integral part of the local community.”
In a letter to parents, board chair Paul Wilton said Mr Johnson’s appointment comes after an “extensive national recruitment campaign where 27 applications were considered by a panel”.
“We are delighted to have an individual with his energy and passion for education join our leadership team,” Mr Wilton said.
“We are confident he will build upon the many strengths of our school as we enter this exciting new phase.”
