THE family embroiled in financial mismanagement claims at a private school south of Brisbane has been sacked this morning.

THE family embroiled in claims of financial mismanagement at a private school south of Brisbane was sacked this morning.

In a letter sent out to the school community this morning, parents were advised that principal Paul Thomson, his daughter Amy Ferguson, son-in-law Kevin Ferguson and his wife Jennifer Thomson had their roles terminated. Mr Thomson founded the school in 2000.

The four allegedly did not supply the board with a response to their show cause notices by last Friday after being suspended.

Mr Thomson’s daughter, Deborah Horn, did provide a response, and she remains suspended pending further investigation.

Paul Wilton, the college’s Board of Directors chair, said the past few weeks had been a “challenging time” for the school community — but he was confident the move was a step in the right direction.

“Today’s decision is a decisive step in dealing with these challenges so that Kimberley College can move forward positively with the support of the community and government, with a sustainable future,” he said.

Mr Wilton said the board would also implement changes to its composition and processes following receipt of a governance report from law firm Minter Ellison.

He said the college would soon advertise for a number key positions including principal, financial controller and human resources manager.

He said the deputy heads, Chris McAlpine and Ystyn Francis, would continue in their leadership roles with the support of Mike Millard.
