Family home of 30 years to be demolished and two cars destroyed

A Crestmead teen has relived the horror as her family scrambled to escape with their lives when their home was set ablaze by four charging e-scooters.

A Crestmead family of five is picking up the pieces and trying to start again after a vicious fire caused by e-scooters destroyed their family home of 30 years.

Residents at the Belah Street address, Kyle Wright, Tyler Prince, Kyle Burgh and Charlie and Jade Beech, are dealing with the reality that their home has to be demolished, also losing two cars in the process.

Four of the five family members were home on Wednesday at 6am when four charging e-scooters in the yard caught fire and a blaze ripped through the home.

Fire crews battled for five hours to get the blaze under control, as the family rushed to get themselves, their three dogs and five newborn puppies to safety.

Sixteen-year-old Tyler Prince said she was asleep when her sister, who lives only a few houses down the road, saw the e-scooters on fire and raced over to yell out that the house was on fire.

“The puppies were in the backyard, I ran to get them out,” Ms Prince said.

“We couldn’t find two of the dogs at first.

“We stood out the front and watched this happen.

“It started smoking then up in flames.

“Explosions all along one side of the house.”

Ms Prince said it’s been a horrible experience for her stepmother Jade Beech, whose lived in that house since she was 12.

“She cried her eyes out,” Ms Prince said.

“My older sister has lived here since she was two weeks old.

“It all just happened to quickly.

“You get into survival mode, I ran as fast as I can.”

Matisse Wells, long-time partner of Kyle Wright, has started a GoFundMe on the family's behalf.

Two cars were lost in the blaze, as were most belongings in two of the rooms which received the brunt of the damage.

The home has suffered severe fire, water and smoke damage and must be demolished, with the family not having any insurance to burden this cost, making it harder to find a new home down the track.

“This morning, a beautiful family of five, three dogs and five newly born puppies escaped with their lives, as an E-scooter exploded in their backyard,” Ms Wells wrote.

“All of them have thankfully survived.

“The house, owned for 30 years, unfortunately has been destroyed, including two cars owned by the mother and son.

“This has been a tragedy to the entire family.

“They have lost their home and most of their belongings.

“Unfortunately, the family does not have insurance.

“Having to start again won’t be easy and we are asking and if there is anything you can donate towards this cause it would be very appreciated.”
