A Narangba couple and parents of three children are fighting serious burns in hospital, after an explosion and subsequent inferno destroyed much of their home this morning.

Angela Henson and Bronson Buckley are both in the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, with Mr Buckley in a stable condition while Ms Henson is understood to have been placed in what is expected to be a week-long induced coma.

The couple was woken just before 3.30am this morning by an explosion inside their Prosperity St home, which soon led to large fire starting in the rear of the property.

While Mr Buckley and the three children were able to escape the blaze, neighbour Gary Murphy claims he helped Ms Henson get out alive.

Mr Murphy said he raced out into his front yard and saw two girls from the now burning house next door on his front lawn, along with their brother who yelled, “don’t go in there, there’s been an explosion”.

Mr Murphy said he helped get the woman from the blaze and that he wrapped her in cold towels until emergency services arrived.

The explosion blew the bedroom window and other windows of the house out, causing glass to fly all over the floor of the home and into Mr Murphys yard.

The blaze, which neighbours say may have been caused by an appliance, has caused structural damage to the home, with the entire back half of the home in ruin.

Woman burnt head to toe in Brisbane house fire

Earlier, it was reported an explosion at a house north of Brisbane has seriously injured a couple in their 30s.

Queensland Ambulance Service medical director Dr Stephen Rashford said QAS were called to reports of a house on fire following an explosion at Narangba shortly after 3:30am on Friday.

“Upon arrival, the paramedics found two patients with very significant burns. Both patients were treated on scene before being transported to hospital in serious condition,” he said.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said three teams were dispatched to the Prosperity Crt address before entering the home in breathing apparatuses.

Initial reports said the single-storey home was well alight and part of the roof had collapsed with a neighbouring property evacuated, however the fire did not spread.

A QFES spokeswoman said four urban crews and senior officers were on scene with a command and hazmat unit who had the fire under control by 4:45am.

Three firefighter teams worked to extinguish the fire, as four additional crews, including a control and hazmat unit were also on scene.

At 4.45am, the roof of the home collapsed as firefighters got the fire under control.

The fire was extinguished by 7.20am but crews continued to dampen some areas in case of reignition.

Five people in total were accounted for at the scene, including three children who managed to get out of the burning house after the explosion.

A QPS spokesman said police were on scene and were investigating, however there were no early indications that the blaze was suspicious.
