VIDEO: Exploding e-scooters destroy family home and cars in Brisbane’s south

A ‘beautiful’ family of five, dogs and litter of puppies escaped with their lives and little more after four e-scooters exploded in their backyard, destroying their home and cars.

A fundraising campaign has been launched for a family of five after they lost their home of 30 years, two cars and most of their belongings, when four e-scooters exploded in their backyard causing a blaze to rip through their home in Brisbane’s south yesterday.

Four of the five family members were home when the blaze began after 6am yesterday, at the Belah St home in Crestmead.

The four, along with three dogs and five puppies escaped with no injuries, as firefighters battled for five hours to control the blaze which had engulfed the entire home and spread to a nearby shed.

Fire investigators determined the blaze started when four charging e-scooters, side-by-side, exploded in the backyard.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started by Matisse Wells whose partner’s family lost their home in this blaze.

“This morning, a beautiful family of five, three dogs and five newly born puppies escaped with their lives, as an e-scooter exploded in their backyard,” Ms Wells wrote.

“All of them have thankfully survived.

“The house, owned for 30 years, unfortunately has been destroyed, including two cars owned by the mother and son.

“This has been a tragedy to the entire family.

“They have lost their home and most of their belongings.

“Unfortunately, the family does not have insurance.

“Having to start again won’t be easy and we are asking and if there is anything you can donate towards this cause it would be very appreciated.”
