A Logan woman has been caught stealing almost $9000 dollars worth of cosmetics, household and electrical equipment from popular retail stores.

Eagleby resident, Elana Janet Heslin, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday (July 8), to more than 30 charges, including theft, possessing dangerous drugs and utensils, evading police and dangerous driving.

The court heard the 36-year-old was caught stealing $8748.80 worth of goods from TK Maxx at Loganholme and Coomera, Chemist Warehouse in Pimpama and Bunnings in Oxenford between September and December of 2021.

“She stole baby products, cosmetics, fashion, homewares, and electric equipment,” police prosecutor Mark Bentley said.

Heslin’s lawyer, Molly Roper, said her client’s behaviour was caused by an addiction to drugs, which was introduced by an ex partner.

“He introduced my client to abuse drugs, namely methamphetamines,” Ms Roper said.

Heslin was also caught driving dangerously and evading police on December 4, 2019 in Holmview.

“You were seen mounting a gutter, the vehicle observed to lose half of its bumper before continuing to drive, narrowly avoiding other road users,” Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll said.

“Thank goodness you did not have an accident, thank God you didn’t kill someone because of your foolishness.”

Heslin was convicted and received a 15 month head sentence, with immediate parole release for the 28 charges.
