A Woodridge man, charged with offences linked to an alleged car jacking of an elderly Logan woman in April, has faced Beenleigh Magistrates Court.

Delaney Res Skeen, 24, appeared to face two counts of armed robbery and three counts of possessing dangerous drugs on Tuesday, September 19.

The court heard he allegedly stole the 71-year-old woman’s car in Loganlea on April 16.

Police alleged the woman heard her garage door opening and saw an unknown man in her car about to drive away.

She allegedly got in to a struggle with the man and tried to grab her car keys as two neighbours intervened.

Police alleged Skeen pushed and kicked the neighbours as well as throwing items at them.

Police prosecutor Tim Wise said there had been a delay in evidence, as he argued the matter should be committed to the District Court.

“There has been an issue with delays of forensic evidence, there are five suspects and the crime definitely happened,” he said.

“There was also a positive photo board identification by the major key witness.

“The getaway car was linked to Skeen by a police witness in Kingston, the officer recognised Skeen from previous dealings.”

Defence barrister Charles Harris argued there was no case to answer and the evidence of the witness was weak.

“The key witness said it could have been another man and in broad daylight could not even identify him 100 per cent,” he said.

“The identification evidence in this case is three quarters of the case and it is weak.”

Magistrate Terry Duroux said there was certainly evidence the robbery was committed, the only question was whether enough evidence linked Mr Skeen to the crime.

He committed the matter to the District Court and adjourned the minor charges such as possession of dangerous drugs to the Beenleigh Magistrates Court for mention on October 16.
