A Logan man allegedly told police he was being hunted by cannibals when they arrested him and said he planned to murder cops with a serrated butcher’s knife and eat them, a court has heard.

Dean Jacob Plattell, 34, faced Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday, September 12 charged with going armed as to cause fear, obstructing police officer and wilful damage of police property.

His defence lawyer Zane Chapman applied for bail for the offences allegedly committed on March 1, 2021 in Loganlea.

Police allege Loganlea man Mr Plattell was carrying a serrated butcher’s knife when arrested and made disturbing, threatening comments to police.

“This knife is the tool of my trade, it is a pig sticker and I’ll slaughter all five of you,” police allege he said to them during the arrest.

“I’m being hunted by cannibals who wanted to eat me, I’m going to murder two cops by spraying cans in their face and slitting their jugulars with a knife.”

Police also allege he kicked his cell when remanded in the watch-house.

The court heard Mr Plattell worked at Coles and Woolworths during Covid-19, stacking shelves and aimed to return to that work once released from custody.

Magistrate Cameron McKenzie denied Mr Plattell’s bail as he was a risk of committing further offending.

“I’m not satisfied the defendant will appear in court again and is not a risk of further offending,” said Magistrate Mckenzie.

His matters were next listed for sentence in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on October 18.
