A Logan man’s drunken bashing of a woman, during which he broke her nose and kicked her on the ground, has been revealed in court.

Beenleigh District Court heard on Friday (May 12) that Dean Roy Andrews, 35, of Lowood, was at his partner’s house in Crestmead when he got into a violent fight with a neighbour who was also at the gathering.

The court heard that during the incident, on September 12 in 2020, Andrews approached a woman and punched her in the nose and bottom lip.

The victim walked away and fell down on a fence.

Andrews, from Lowood, walked towards the victim and kicked her in the side while she was on the ground.

She attended Logan Hospital to be treated for injuries to her face and ribs.

Andrews pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.

Prosecutor Aden Tranent said the offending was an example of anti-social, alcohol fuelled violence.

“The courts need to send a clear message to the community that this type of behaviour is not acceptable,” he said.

Andrews offered to the court to pay $1000 in compensation to his victim.

“That will be cold comfort to the victim,” Judge Terry Gardiner said.

“I need to send a message to other people that these type of offences are not acceptable.”

Andrews was sentenced to 10 months’ prison, wholly suspended for two years.

He was ordered to pay $1000 in restitution to the victim.
