A drink driving sales representative reeked of booze when cops caught him behind the wheel of his company car over four times the legal alcohol limit.

Springwood resident Darcy John Grant, 33, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday to driving under the influence of liquor.

The court heard Grant had been coming from dinner out with clients when he got stopped for a roadside breath test along Vanessa Boulevard in Springwood about 5pm on August 8.

Police noticed that 33-year-old, who was born and raised in regional Victoria, smelled strongly of liquor and was slurring his speech when they pulled him over.

He later returned a 0.221 per cent breath alcohol content reading.

Grant’s lawyer told the court he had been out having some dinner and drinks with some clients and didn’t want to leave his company car unattended overnight.

Magistrate Terry Duroux said while Grant did not have a relevant traffic history, his high reading was worrying.

“You drink and drive, you take a risk and pay the consequences,” he said.

“Not only your own safety but the safety of other road users.”

Grant was fined $1700 and disqualified from driving for 8 months.
