A young drug-addicted father was allegedly involved in a knifepoint robbery of a 21-year-old clerk of a Logan streetwear store which so terrified the alleged victim he quit and now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, a court has heard.

Pimpama fencer Cory Thomas McEvoy, 28, described by Beenleigh Magistrate Brian Kilmartin as “hopelessly eclipsed by drugs”, made an application for bail on Monday on 35 charges.

They included armed robbery in company, burglary, five counts of failing to appear before a court, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of driving while disqualified by a court order, nine counts of receiving tainted property and 12 counts of stealing.

McEvoy, a father of one, is also charged with fraud and breaching a community service order.

Most of the offending allegedly occurred while on bail for other offences.

The court heard McEvoy allegedly committed the offences between September last year and his arrest in late November.

Among the most serious of his alleged offending are the charges of burglary and armed robbery.

Police prosecutor Sgt Stephen Cochrane told the court the armed robbery was allegedly committed with an accomplice on September 1 last year.

Police allege the victim business was the Urban Wear clothing store at 262 Kingston Rd, Slacks Creek and the pair departed with $800 worth of clothing and apparel.

“The 21-year-old (clerk) was so traumatised he had to leave his employment and now appears to be suffering from PTSD,” Sgt Cochrane said.

The knife was allegedly brandished by McEvoy’s co-accused, the court heard.

Defence lawyer Sammi Dutschke told the court her client had been clean for large parts of 2019, but relapsed in January 2020 after the death of his mother.

His drug-use surged until he was rendered homeless, which precipitated the period of alleged offending, Ms Dutschke said.

Mr Kilmartin refused McEvoy’s bail on the grounds he has repeatedly breached court orders and failed to show up for court dates.

His charges were adjourned to December 1.

He pleaded guilty to the five counts of failing to appear and was convicted but not further punished.
