A pregnant mother who stabbed her partner in the chest in their kitchen and left him coughing up blood, was jailed for a lengthy term by a Logan court.

Beenleigh District Court heard on Thursday, May 25, that Charlotte Rose Hall, 29, and her former partner were having a toxic argument in their Park Ridge home.

He was angry at Hall’s excessive drinking and said she needed to take better care of their two children.

Hall, from Beaudesert, said to the 31-year-old man “I f-----g hate you”, and hit him with a chair on September 15, 2020.

She pleaded guilty to common assault (domestic violence offence) for the attack.

The court heard that the next day Hall’s partner entered the Park Ridge home and saw Hall asleep on the couch affected by alcohol.

Another verbally abusive argument erupted and Hall picked up a serrated steak knife, put it to his chest and said “I want to f-----g kill you”.

The man replied to the threat in the kitchen of their home.

“If you want to kill me just do it,” he said with the knife touching his chest.

Hall stabbed him in the left side of his chest and he walked away slowly towards the garage, coughing up blood and collapsed on the ground.

He was screaming out for help and neighbours assisted by calling police and an ambulance.

The victim’s lung collapsed and his chest had to be drained at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The court heard the man almost died.

A neighbour described on social media the horrific scenes she witnessed that night.

“She ran to the neighbour’s house asking them for help and he was behind her with blood pouring out of his chest, heart,” she said.

Hall pleaded guilty to acts intending to cause grievous bodily harm.

The court heard Hall has since married a new partner and was pregnant, due in October.

Defence lawyer Terry Morgans said the offending occurred in troubling, traumatic circumstances.

Judge Craig Chowdhury agreed with the submission and highlighted the severity of the attack.

“This was an extremely dysfunctional, toxic relationship,” said Judge Chowdhury.

“You could have easily killed him and the tragedy is I have to sentence you to a long time in jail.

“You’ll have to take your punishment and pick up the pieces of your life when you get out.”

Hall was sentenced to five years prison and will be eligible for parole on August 24, 2024.
