A Beaudesert teen charged with the attempted murder of her grandmother for an alleged horrific, brutal stabbing, has applied for bail for the first time.
Bella-Rose Currie Shields, 19, allegedly stabbed her 63-year-old grandmother in an unprovoked frenzied attack on May 17.
She has been in custody since her arrest that night and, for the first time, applied for bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday, November 7.
The court heard Ms Shields allegedly entered her grandmother Carolyn Shield’s room at their shared Beaudesert home and stabbed her repeatedly with a kitchen knife.
She allegedly chased her through the home and then outside in a “frenzied attack’’ before her grandmother collapsed.
She tried to continue stabbing but her grandfather took the knife away and hit Shields in the face.
Carolyn Shields suffered injuries to her kidneys, spleen and intestines.
She underwent surgery and was later discharged from hospital.
Defence lawyer Alexander Weddell applied for bail for Shields, who faced one charge of attempted murder (domestic violence offence).
“The charge is very serious but it may change once the Crown reviews the indictment,” Mr Weddell said.
“We can ameliorate the risk by imposing a condition of no contact with the victim and making sure she does not attend Beaudesert.”
He said Shields planned to live near Boonah.
But Magistrate Mark Howden denied bail and said mental health concerns were a risk.
“It is a strong police case. There was a witness and there are allegations that threats were made by Ms Shields on her grandmother the day before the attack,” he said.
The matter was adjourned to November 29 in Beenleigh Magistrates Court for a committal mention.
