A Logan father-of-three has faced court after strangling his partner in a horrific attack.

Beenleigh resident, Brandon Lee Schultz, 27, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on Wednesday, October 19, to one count of choking in a domestic relationship – domestic violence offence.

The court heard Schultz was at a Beenleigh address with his partner on December 17 last year when the attack happened.

“(Schultz) woke up and asked the complainant if she would have sex with him. She refused,” the police prosecutor said.

“He called her a slut, told her to cut herself, kill herself.

“He then grabbed both her wrists and pinned her down and used his hands to wrap around the victim’s throat, causing her to struggle to breath.

“The complainant was sore and suffered bruising and red marks to her neck, wrists and hands.”

The court heard Schultz had a history of domestic violence offending.

“The last four entries involve some form of offending against women, calling an ex-girlfriend, saying he’s going to slice her up, pushing her over at a park, abusing and threatening her.

“(He started) getting into an argument with his neighbours before getting a pickaxe and threatening his elderly neighbours and a young girl.

“He’s had an appalling history.

“He continues to abuse and disrespect any and all women involved.”

His lawyer said Schultz had a poor upbringing.

“He was exposed to domestic violence when he was young,” he said.

“He has intellectual impairments that has affected his schooling ability.”

Judge Craig Chowdhury said Schultz’s charge was serious.

“You wouldn’t let her go, you stood over her and put your forearm against her throat so she couldn’t breathe,” Mr Chowdhury said.

“She panicked, she struggled to get you off her.

“She was crying and in distress.

“There’s a major problem in our society with domestic violence.

“(You need to) be very careful when forming another relationship.”

Schultz was convicted and sentenced to three years’ jail.

His 10 months spent in custody was declared as time served.

He was given immediate parole eligibility.
