A young Richlands man accused of stabbing a couple in Logan with three other men, during an alleged drug dealing revenge plot, has applied for bail in court.

Anthony Anh Hyunh, 20, applied for bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 13 on charges of unlawful wounding, grievous bodily harm and robbery.

Police allege that on December 27 last year, Durack man Mr Hyunh and three others stabbed 21-year-old Lachlan Riley Flesser in Loganlea and his 28-year-old girlfriend Kate Marie Volmer.

Mr Hyunh and the three co-accused allegedly sought to seek revenge on the couple over a drug deal gone bad.

Police allege when the group of four arrived on the street of Packett Crescent, Loganlea, an argument erupted where one of the men took a knife from Ms Volmer and stabbed Mr Flesser.

The court heard Flesser was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition and was “nearly dead on arrival”.

He remained there for three months, had significant organ injuries and permanently lost movement in his leg.

Defence lawyer Daniel Hua told the court there was a significant change in circumstances and no strong evidence linking his client to the attack.

“There is a connection to him being at the scene but neither complainant identified him,” he said.

“We are still missing the recorded interviews of the co-accused, DNA evidence and the brief of evidence thus far would not survive a committal.”

The court heard police allegedly located a balaclava and photos of the knife used at Mr Hyunh’s address.

Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll accepted the change in circumstances necessary to consider bail.

“The victim’s injuries are extremely serious and I accept there is some delay,” said Magistrate O’Driscoll.

“The offending is very serious but I can impose strict bail conditions.”

Mr Hyunh was granted bail under the conditions he must not leave Queensland, must have only one mobile phone, which is not encrypted and must surrender his passport.

A GPS tracking device would also be fitted and he would undergo drug testing.

The matter will next be mentioned in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on August 2.
