A Logan father accused of throwing beer bottles at his mother and choking his brother then partner, has appeared in court.

Jamon Oden Matthews-Mullen, 26, from Loganlea, faced Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday, July 11, charged with one count of choking (domestic violence offence) and wilful damage.

He has not entered a plea at this stage.

The father of one applied for bail on charges of allegedly choking his partner, the mother to his daughter, on October 28, 2022 in Loganlea.

A statement from the alleged victim read out to the court by police prosecution, recounted the woman’s physical trauma from the alleged assault.

“Jamon continued to strangle me, holding me up off the ground. I lost consciousness and couldn’t breathe,” the alleged victim said in her statement.

Police allege Mr Matthews-Mullen pushed his partner and put his fingers in her mouth before choking her.

The court heard police arrived and saw blood on her lips, her voice was raspy due to a loss of breath and she had marks on her neck. Her mobile phone was also destroyed.

She told police she passed out after the alleged attack then woke up delirious.

Mr Matthews-Mullens also allegedly threw beer bottles at his mother and choked his brother on May, 2022 while intoxicated.

He has no criminal history and has served 257 days of pre-sentence custody.

Magistrate Cameron McKenzie acknowledged there was a risk of the defendant committing further offences and further endangering the safety of the complainant.

“The defendant is in a show cause position and there is a risk of ongoing domestic violence concerns,” he said.

“He has not shown cause to ameliorate the risks and bail is refused.”

The charge of choking will next be mentioned in Beenleigh District Court and an indictment has not yet been presented.

The charge of wilful damage will next be mentioned in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on October 17.
