A 20-year-old Marsden woman’s methed up ride in a stolen car with a Swiss Army knife ended with her stealing a handbag and being chased in a police helicopter.

Alice Rebecca Barryl Logan pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on December 13, 2022 to common assault, theft and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The court heard that on December 22, 2021 in Marsden, Logan approached a woman and asked her for money.

The woman gave her $10 and then Logan grabbed the woman’s car keys and entered the BMW.

A third person came to the aid of the victim and Logan pulled out a Swiss Army knife, threatened them and then punched them.

The two victims were filming the wild altercation and captured Logan who made violent threats and said “I need a drink”.

The court heard she took off in the stolen BMW and stole a woman’s handbag in Paddington at 4pm.

The owner of the handbag attempted to chase her down the street but Logan got away and was then followed by a police helicopter before the car's tyres were punctured by police spike strips at 11pm that night.

Logan’s defence said her behaviour was badly affected by methamphetamine use and glue-sniffing.

Judge Craig Chowdhury said the defendant’s behaviour was serious and the consequences could have been severe.

“Your amphetamine abuse was at the heart of your offending but this is serious offending and gratuitous,” he said.

“You are lucky when driving the BMW you didn’t hurt yourself or anyone else.”

Logan was sentenced to 18 months in prison with an immediate parole eligibility date, having already served 356 days.
