A Brisbane man has been denied bail after an alleged coward punch left a man with a fractured jaw and needing plastic surgery, a court heard.

Acacia Ridge resident, Ashitosh Vishaal Nath, was denied bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court today after he was charged with grievous bodily harm.

The court heard the 29-year-old defendant was at a Marsden home on March 6 when he allegedly attacked a man, who was there to look at a gel blaster.

“He (the alleged victim) went outside and asked to have a look at it, then he was punched from behind,” Crown prosecutor Tim Wise said.

Magistrate Clare Kelly said Mr Nath described the alleged attack as a “simple slap” to the man’s face but the court heard the injuries reported showed the man needed serious medical attention.

“There’s a fractured jaw that required surgery and an injury to upper lip that required plastic surgery,” Magistrate Kelly said.

Mr Nath’s lawyer, Nick Crawford, said the man was not “fearful for his life” because the complaint of the incident was registered months later.

“For someone that is that scared, he is the one that contacted my client,” he said.

Magistrate Kelly said the man and defendant may have been in contact for a significant time before the incident.

“There was dispute around property,” she said.

“There’s some background to the complainant and Mr Nath.”

Mr Nath was denied bail as Magistrate Kelly said she was concerned about more offences being committed.
