A Logan man jailed for producing and supplying cannabis has faced court again, this time for stealing an unknown man’s bag from a train station while they were both in a toilet.

Aaron Matthew Collins, 37, pleaded guilty to nine counts of supplying and one count of producing dangerous drugs in Brisbane District Court on February 23.

The court heard Collins solid large quantities of cannabis on January, 2021 and was sentenced to 18 months’ prison, wholly suspended for a period of 18 months.

The Boronia Heights man appeared in Beenleigh District Court again on Thursday, September 28 for breaching his suspended sentence.

The court heard he stole a man’s backpack from a Logan train station in June while the victim was using the toilet.

Judge Bernard Porter said this type of offending on random members of the community was concerning.

“This is ridiculous stealing, it’s insidious — the idea you can’t put your bag down without somebody nicking it,” he said.

Judge Porter said Collins needed to listen to court orders.

“When you appeared in the Brisbane District Court, Judge Vicki Loury warned you to not commit a similar offence and only months later you did,” he said.

“You can’t do this sort of thing when you’re on a suspended sentence.”

The court heard Collins was previously in a “toxic’’ relationship which exposed him to drugs, which was a major reason behind his drug-related offending.

He worked at a retail store in Browns Plains and was father to a 12-year-old child.

Collins’ suspended sentence was extended by an operational period of six months.

He was not required to serve any time in custody.
