A man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly tried to kill another man by stabbing him in the neck with a syringe on Easter Monday.

Jonathon Mark Spence, 40, was arrested in Windsor on Monday, April 10, after he went to the home of a 67-year-old man and allegedly attacked him.

Police will allege that about 1.40pm, Mr Spence approached the man at his house on Constitution Road in Windsor and stabbed him in the neck with a syringe.

The two men were believed to be known to each other and were arguing prior to the alleged stabbing.

Off duty officers who happened to be passing by, noticed the altercation and intervened.

The 67-year-old Windsor man was taken to the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Mr Spence, an Albion resident, was charged with attempted murder.

He appeared before Magistrate Julian Noud at the Brisbane Arrest Court on Tuesday, but did not apply for bail.

Police prosecutor Sargeant Matthew Colclough submitted to the court an application for Mr Spence to be tested for disease.

A disease test would allow blood and urine samples to be taken from Mr Spence and tested for any disease that could be transmitted by a used syringe.

Mr Spence was represented by Legal Aid solicitor Axle Beard, who did not oppose the disease test application.

“It’s not opposed, given the contents of the court liaison service report (mental health assessment). I’m not in a position to make submissions,” he said.

Magistrate Noud ordered the disease test and adjourned Mr Spence’s matter to April 24 for mention.

“I am satisfied that there are reasonable grounds for suspecting a relevant offence has been committed and that the (disease test) order should be made,” Magistrate Noud said.

Mr Spence remains remanded in custody.
