The body was retrieved by emergency workers from Downfall Creek along Murphy Rd, near Westfield Shopping Centre at Chermside, about 11.30am.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said they believed it was a man.

“A member of the public called it in to us,” she said.

“The area has now been declared as a crime scene.”

Police and plain-clothed detectives remain at the site and are yet to remove the body from parkland next to the river.

Investigations are continuing into cause of death and it is understood next of kin is currently being traced.
