New analysis has revealed the Bundaberg schools with the highest teacher to student ratios.

The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority figures show in 2021 there were more students per teacher at St John’s Lutheran Primary School than any other Bundaberg region school.

According to the data - the most up to date that includes all state and private schools nationally - St John’s Lutheran Primary School had 20.3 students for every teacher.

It had 256 students enrolled and 12.6 full-time equivalent teachers.

St John’s Lutheran Primary School principal Chris Mallett said the number of students per teacher is “only one part of the picture of how we go about supporting learners”.

In addition to full-time teachers, teaching assistants are regularly involved with classes including literacy intervention educators, a learning support teacher and pastoral care.

Teaching assistants are used in every classroom from kindergarten to year 4, with some classes using two assistants in addition to the full-time teacher.

“We are very generous in appointing additional qualified adult support in the delivery of high outcomes and learning and teaching,” Mr Mallett said.

“We invest very heavily in the development of our staff, in terms of professional development, so that they focused on individual learners in order to maximise learning outcomes.”
