A retro-style home in the outer north Brisbane suburb of Aspley has sold for $1.02m under the hammer.

The three-bedroom property at 9 Boulter Street attracted four registered bidders and a crowd of nearly 50 onlookers.
Marketed by agent Nick Thornton of Ray White Wilston, the house had been owned by the same family since 1971.

Mr Thornton said the sellers were “over the moon”. “He is 91 and she is 88 and they have lived in the house for 53 years, since 1971, and they are both now moving into care,” he said.

“It was a good campaign with four offers prior and they all came and bid, which shows that auctions work as they provide the social proof for buyers.”

A 20-year-old home in Algester, in Brisbane's south, has sold for $100,000 more than its reserve price at auction.

The four-bedroom, two-storey house at 34 Mount D'Aguilar Cres sold for $1.052m after 10 bidders registered to compete for the home.

Marketing agent Simon Au of Ray White – Sunnybank said the winning bidder didn’t even know he had won the keys to the home as he was flying back from Taiwan today.

“A local family won the auction but they are actually still on the plane back from Taiwan and his brother was bidding on their behalf," Mr Au said. "It’s a great story. There was a lot of competition for this four bedroom home. It’s a record price for a house on a small block of 456 sqm."

The auctioneer called the house on the market at $950,000 and it sold for $1,052,000.

“My sellers are so happy, they want to sell it again! That’s a record price for that size block. There were a lot of investors plus local families bidding. As you can see we have 10 times more buyers than sellers right now."
