Nine bidders registered for the auction of this three-bedroom, brick home in the affluent Gold Coast suburb of Mermaid Waters.

But even the marketing agent was surprised when it passed it in at $1.25m.

"I thought that would have gone actually," Christine Tucker of Harcourts Coastal said. "I've got an offer coming in this afternoon so it will probably be under contract by the end of the day."

A mix of first homebuyers, builders, and interstate parties showed interest in the property at 48 Volante Crescent, which has had the same owner for nearly 40 years.

"It's got great potential to renovate and extend, but is also perfectly liveable as is," Ms Tucker said.
