‘Sleeper suburb’ one of Brisbane’s most affordable and liveable

Affordability, location and proximity to a good school were the drawcards for a buyer who scraped together savings to get into a ‘sleeper suburb’ in Brisbane’s outer north.

Deagon has been named as one of Brisbane’s most affordable suburbs a PRD study has found.

Ally Perez who recently purchased a property at 8 Central Ave, Deagon said the drawcard to the area was the affordability, location and St. Patrick‘s College in Shorncliffe where her boys attend school.

“I had been searching for a while, I started frantically looking my Dad came from Sydney to help me, two people sent me a photo at this one and told me to have a look at it”, Ms Perez said.

“I instantly fell in love with the property, it’s beautiful inside, I don’t have to do a single thing it’s all renovated, I can just move in, there’s so much cupboard space.

“I will fix up the greenhouse and I’m going to plant a beautiful ponytail out the back”.

Ms Perez sold her previous Kippa Ring property in April last year and due to the supply issue across Brisbane was forced into competitive renting to secure a place to live.

“It’s relief to get out of the rental market, I owned my previous house for ten years, the only way I could get it was if I paid four months in advance”, she said.

Property agent Kylie Loof from Ray White Sandgate said she was surprised Deagon was named as one of Queensland’s most liveable and affordable areas considering the area was devastated by the February 2022 floods.

“’It’s a good place … I’ve lived in the area for more than ten years, I look at this area as a sleeper suburb”, Ms Loof said.

“It’s sort of been that suburb that the people have forgotten about.

Ms Loof said there was a supply and demand issue in the Deagon area, as well as across Greater Brisbane.

“We have not stopped it has been just as busy as before pre-interest rate rises”, she said.

“There’s more buyers out there that are dedicated to finding something out there at the moment”.
