One is a single mum who gets up at dawn to go to the gym every morning before dropping her kids off at school and heading to the office.
Another runs a successful agency, juggles five kids, and sold more than $320m worth of real estate in the past 12 months alone.
Some are new mums, while others waited until their children had flown the coup before making a career change to real estate.
There’s Judi O’Dea, arguably the best dressed woman in real estate, who owned a wholesale fashion business until the age of 48 when she switched to property.
Vanya Dzumhur is a scientist who comes from a family of doctors but is now killing it in property sales.
Christine Rudolph was a television journalist and a Qantas customer service professional in her past life.
Making the leap into real estate after her ill husband died and she was raising her daughter solo was the toughest career decision of her life.
“I had a great career at Qantas and all my friends thought I was crazy leaving a secure career which I also really enjoyed, but I felt a strong calling to really do the right thing by others and make a difference to the industry,” she said.
“I look back at those tough times and I am really grateful for those experiences as I am really able to connect with my clients on a very personal level.”
Then, there’s Lucy Cole, who was a single mum of two young boys and had battled cancer when she became one of the first women in Queensland to launch an independent agency in 2000.
She counts winning the Real Estate Institute of Queensland Salesperson of the Year award three times among her proudest achievements.
“It was a moving experience to receive the accolade because I had been recovering from cancer,” Ms Cole said. “I could not attend the gala ceremony but was encouraged to do so. I could not even walk up the stairs to the ballroom and hold the large trophy.”
At a time of supreme growth in the Queensland property market, these agents are standouts in the industry for their achievements.
It’s a career that requires dedication, a commitment to work long hours and a thick skin to deal with rejection — and the competition.
According to the Real Estate Buyers Agents Association of Australia (REBAA), the average sale price achieved by one of the women ranked in their recent 2022 Top 50 Women in Real Estate list was $1.7m — a $400,000 increase on the previous year.
