The Sunday Mail has reached out to the state’s biggest real estate agencies to uncover some of their star performers.
At the age of just 20, Ryan Suhle tops the collective list when it comes to the total value of residential homes sold in 2021.
Mr Suhle sold a whopping $126m worth of real estate last year from 177 sales with an average sale price of just $700,000.
That means he earned somewhere between $2m and $3m in commission.based on an average rate of 2 to 3 per cent.
But Mr Suhle said he invested a lot of that back into the business.
“There’s a lot expenses that come out of that,” he said. “I invest heavily back into the business and branding.
“I’m not driving a Lamborghini, put it that way!”
Not bad for a kid who lasted three weeks at university before deciding to join his parents in the family business at Ray White North Lakes north of Brisbane.
Within months, he had bought his first home, and now owns three properties in the Moreton Bay region, where home prices have skyrocketed since the pandemic.
In his spare time, Mr Suhle drives racing cars, but he is the first to admit he has little spare time.
“I have zero social life,” he said. “I’ve been to a club once in my life and I’m 20. I work on Saturday nights. You can’t have it both ways, but that’s a decision I’ve made.”
With a whopping $117m in sales to his name last year, Kollosche’s Eoghan Murphy has found his calling at a young age — even after playing footy, making coffees and trying his luck on TV.
The Irish-born 26-year-old was working at a Gold Coast cafe after returning from a stint playing for the Sheffield Wednesday Football Club in England when he was introduced to real estate in 2014.
“It’s funny, I went from selling $4 coffees in Mermaid Beach to selling $4m houses there,” he said.
Mr Murphy’s profile grew after he appeared on the reality TV series, Love Island Australia, in 2019. In 2021, he earned a total of just over $2m in commission, based on an average of 2 to 3 per cent for each of the 43 properties he sold.
Yet Mr Murphy said he doesn’t subscribe to a flashy lifestyle, instead focusing on career longevity.
His most expensive purchase last year was a new 4WD car for his mum.
“A lot of agents have been supported by the market of the last year, and I want to make sure that’s not me.
“There’s going to be good times, there’s going to be bad times. It’s important to have a long game,” he said.
Then there’s Michael Bacon of Place Estate Agents, who has the market covered in the Brisbane riverside suburb of Kangaroo Point.
The 24-year-old’s clients have included comedian Jackson O’Doherty, fashionista Thessy Batsinilas of Sabo Skirt, and rugby union star Quade Cooper.
Mr Bacon bought his first home at the end of last year after selling $68m worth of property.
He shouted himself to the three-bedroom penthouse of Bachelor in Paradise star Niranga Amarasinghe in Windsor.
“I actually saw this place in Windsor online first but they wanted $900,000 and it was unrealistic so I waited three months until it got to a realistic price of where the market was and bought at a good deal,” he told The Sunday Mail.
