An original 1960-built home that looks much the same as it did back then has sold for a whopping $2.8m at auction.

Brisbane developers emerged triumphant after their auction battle for the 814sq m property which officially has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a two car garage.

Ray White auctioneer Andrew Bell controlled the auction which had five registered bidders, three of whom were active.

Jackson Paradise of Ray White Prestige Gold Coast – Surfers Paradise listed the property for auction saying its now London-based owners were "serious about selling".

The biggest drawcard is that the property sits in one of the hottest spots on the Gold Coast – Palm Beach – and is a walk to the beach. Mr Paradise had listed the double block property as being "few and far between" and said there was "development potential for up to five townhouses subject to council approval".

The home at 382-384 Cypress Terrace North, Palm Beach, was passed down among siblings for almost a decade before they sold it for $700,000 in June 2011.

The auction result is three times the price paid in 2011, with a gain of about $190,000 for every year the current sellers have owned it.

Mr Jackson said strong results were still coming through for auctions.

"We had some huge sales over the last week. Recently we’ve started seeing an increase in interstate buyers as well but as of yet there is no real trend of international buyers coming in.”
