That's a wrap!

Brisbane buyers took their A-game to auction today, bidding with a determination that saw Ray White post a preliminary auction clearance rate of more than 80 per cent for the day. We also achieved Australia's highest auction sale of the day with a $6.77m sale, and we put the real estate industry to the test once more as it was forced to adapt to a rapidly changing emergency with 100mm of rain falling since the first auctions began at 8am this morning. We're off to dry out.
Stay safe everyone and we'll be back with more live auction coverage next weekend.

Ray White Indooroopilly made the decision last night to cancel today's open homes and move the auction of 19 Dopson St, Taringa to real estate agent offices in Indooroopilly.
"We wanted to do what was best for the buyers and our staff," Ray White Indooroopilly's Kirrilli Cobley said.
"All our auctions are now in person and online so all bidders are already registered and familiar with the online platform. They didn't have to learn any new technology. It's the silver lining to come out of Covid."
The move was a resounding success, with 16 registered bidders for the three-bedroom home on a 754sq m block, with half of them bidding remotely.
The property, which was a deceased estate, sold for $1.761m to a local buyer wanting to stay in Taringa.

Deluge fails to hold back Australia's top auction sale

It can now be revealed that the $6.77m sale of 2 Perry St, Hamilton was the biggest auction result for the Ray White Group in Australia today.
This just in from the Ray White team:
Ray White Queensland Chief Auctioneer Gavin Croft said that the 389mm of rain within three hours on Saturday led to a lot of fear that the crowds wouldn’t show up for auctions today.
“The usual large crowds of onlookers stayed home today, but the genuine buyers were absolutely turning up and were ready to secure real estate,” Mr Croft said.
“This level of rain was almost a buyer qualifying method today; only genuine bidders showed up, and they bid incredibly fiercely,” he said.
Ray White auction data for Brisbane shows there were an average of 8.5 registered bidders per auction today despite the big wet, with an average of 4.2 bidders active bidders.

10 Roedean St, Fig Tree Pocket - Sold for $2.05m

Hiding under this canopy of trees is a four-bedroom, mid-century modern, Maurice Hurst-designed home with prime river frontage.
There were 12 registered buyers at 10 Roedean St, Fig Tree Pocket today and five of them were actively bidding during the auction, with the keys to this vintage 1966 home going to a young family from Mount Gravatt.

Watch out on the roads!

If you're out and about on the roads, watch out for traffic hazards and unusual vehicles on the road that are responding to the current emergency. This is next to an SES depot in Brisbane's north, and there were some close shaves as traffic tried to overtake this Rapid Relief Team truck that was stuck in the intersection. No auction or open home is worth risking your life to get to so take it easy if you're driving out there today.

Their 1921 Queenslander, at 30 Central Ave, Paddington, attracted first-home buyers, downsizers, executive couples and investors with a buyer from Ascot overtaking them all to buy the three-bedroom house for $1.8m.

“Interstate buyers who are already renting here and wanting to become established are pushing our market at the moment,” Ray White Paddington agent Judi O’Dea said.
Mr Billing, who won a British Academy of Film and Television Award for his work on the Al Jazeera documentary How to Sell a Massacre, about the US gun lobby, was hoping to become a permanent resident in Australia with his partner Clare Peacock but visa complications as a result of Covid have postponed that plan for now and they are about to start looking for a home in the south-west of England.
