Women’s and men’s fashions from New York, Paris and London, as well as Australia, have come to a new store in Flinders St thanks to a businesswoman with an eye for style.

Rachelle Foley has opened Rachelle’s Unique Boutique in premises leased by Colliers in Alexandra House opposite the Brewery in the CBD.

Ms Foley is a former shareholder in a Dexion industrial supplier franchise in Townsville who has honed her fashion sense while also operating a networking group for business professionals.

The networking group, PSNQ, hosts events at pubs and bars and conducts trips for social outings so Ms Foley has become something of an expert at sourcing fine clothes, mostly online.

“I have always been into fashion and looking good. People always asked me where do I get my clothes,” Ms Foley said.

A recent offer to sell her shareholding in the industrial supplier business opened the way for her to suggest to daughter Danielle Misiraca they should establish a boutique.

Contacts with designers have led to supply arrangements with brands like Australia’s Fillyboo, John Lennon shirts, Lords of Harlech, OAS swimwear and New York’s Jessie Zhao.

She has also designed her own line of boots and shoes.

Rachelle said both she and her daughter could see Townsville lacked good, unique fashion wear.

She said it was a huge issue for men and women but especially men where blokes could often turn up at events wearing the same patterned shirt.

Rachelle’s Unique Boutique has opened in a 76 sqm tenancy fronting Flinders St in Alexandra House, a property which has mostly sat vacant for years but recently came under new ownership.

Ms Foley said she had looked at several properties and this small, affordable site suited her perfectly, while she also supported reinvigorating the city’s empty shops.

“Plus I love being across the road from a pub. We are going to open later on Fridays and Saturdays because of the foot traffic coming out of there,” Ms Foley said.

Colliers leasing agent Reagan Stokley said it was self evident Flinders St and other city streets had a lot of vacancies and this lease was part of a new beginning.

“I think it’s good to see someone having a go in the city,” Mr Stokley said.

FLINDERS SHIRE OFFERS RIVERSIDE FARM FOR LEASE

A mid-west property with a large hay farm and plentiful supply of water from free-flowing artesian bores near Hughenden is being offered for long-term lease.

Riverside, which fronts the Flinders River, was acquired by the Flinders Shire Council last year with the aim of stimulating jobs and growth in the shire.

Colliers Townsville is marketing the property in an expressions of interest campaign.

Colliers associate director Angela Castorina said the 377ha property was being offered with an eight-year lease.

Mr Castorina said it presented the opportunity to capitalise not only on its substantial allocation of 1500 megalitres of water a year under water licences but also the proven results of a large hay farm producing between 30,000 and 36,000 bales a year.

About 105ha has been developed for flood irrigated cultivation, while about 230ha is used for cattle grazing.

Flinders Councillor Bill Bode said the acquisition of the property unlocked growth and development potential for the shire through securing additional water licences required to implement the council’s plan for economic development.

“Council has now decided to invite investors to lease the farm to develop water efficient, high-value cropping and labour intensive alternatives,” Cr Bode said.

Flinders Mayor Jane McNamara said exciting things were happening in the shire and the council was working tirelessly to provide quality services and lifestyle opportunities.

The council’s CEO, Hari Boppudi, said the aim was to stimulate jobs and growth for the community and offer a sustainable return on investment.

“Water is liquid gold and essential for the future growth and development of the shire. In recognising that water security is the key to a successful agriculture venture, we intend

for the site to continue to be utilised for agricultural purposes,” Mr Boppudi said.

The council believes the farm has the potential to grow high value crops and create local jobs.

“The main reason council purchased the farm was to access the water, which we see great

potential in further growing the local economy,” Mr Boppudi said.

“We’ve got two Great Artesian bores at the farm, and the water goes into dams, and then

flood irrigates the country from there.”

Expressions of interest close on 9 June with a contract intended to be finalised by August.
