A massive $13m project has been approved by council to create homes for struggling young people amid a staggering warning that they make up a quarter of the homelessness crisis.
Anglicare Southern Queensland will build 24 studio apartments and six one bedroom units in Logan in the south of the Greater Brisbane region to cater for individuals, couples or small families.

Anglicare Southern Queensland chief executive Sue Cooke said the 30-unit accommodation project has development approval for Manila Street in Beenleigh and will cater for young people aged between 16 and 25 who are either homeless or at significant risk of homelessness.
“Sadly, nearly a quarter of Australians experiencing homelessness are aged between 12 and 24. In particular, the South Brisbane-Logan corridor has a significant shortage of immediate need accommodation for young people facing homelessness.”
Construction is expected to be later this year and completed in late 2025.
“At Anglicare, we’re here to help those at risk to find a home, but we know we can’t do it alone,” Ms Cooke said.
“We know that with stable housing and the right support network, young people can positively change their life trajectory by securing employment, education, and long-term housing.”
Last year alone the organisation logged 46,511 hours of support for women and young people facing homeless, with youth homeless accommodation and services already located in Beenleigh, Cleveland and Mt Gravatt.
Ms Cooke said the Beenleigh location was chosen “as it’s close to public amenities including shopping centres, business and civic centres, a local sports centre, public green spaces, and has convenient access to public transport”.

“In addition to accommodation, residents will also receive a suite of wraparound support services to help improve life skills and increase independence, while providing the care and connections these young people need, through a case-planned process.”
Ms Cooke said it was a significant project for Anglicare Southern Queensland.
“We are seeking corporate donors and partners to help realise this important community project and welcome in-kind or financial contributions of any size.”
