Family living the Redcliffe Peninsula dream after over 60 house inspections

Finding a home before their son was born was a dream come true for one Brisbane couple, who looked at more than 60 properties before sealing the dealing on the Redcliffe Peninsula.

Finding a home before their son was born was a dream come true for Stewart and Chutipapha Paterson.

After moving back to Brisbane from Melbourne, Mr Paterson met his now wife, affectionately known as Nana, with the couple renting in Ascot before embarking on their epic househunt.

“We looked at over 60 properties in the Moreton Bay region,” Mr Paterson said.

“It was a tough process because Nana was about six months pregnant at the time and I was dragging her all over the place every Wednesday and Saturday.”

They finally found a place to call home in Margate, on the Redcliffe Peninsula, moving into the house on March 12 last year --- seven days before their son Patrick, now 10 months old, was born.

On a 405sq m block, the couple “stretched the budget a bit” to buy the property for $565,000, but with it only about 450m from the beach, they believe they got a good buy.

“We sacrificed a bit of land to get the location,” Mr Paterson, who works in agriculture pest control, said.

“But we had looked at Wynnum/Manly, and that’s just mud and mangroves.

“The beauty of the peninsula is that there is huge beach, and it is just 30-odd minutes from the city.

“ I lived in Upper Caboolture before moving to Melbourne and I remember thinking at the time that I was amazed that people hadn’t really discovered it (the Redcliffe Peninsula).”

The couple believe there is strong growth ahead for the region, and noted a vacant block of a similar size at the same price would be hard to come by now.

Mr Paterson said location, amenities, proximity to the CBD, Gateway and the airport, good schools and the local parks and beach were huge drawcards for his young family.

Data from REA Group shows the median house price in Margate is now $615,000, up 29.1 per cent in 12 months on the back of 147 sales.

Just one year ago, the median house sales price in Margate was $476,250.

“This is a great stepping stone for us,” he said. “We bought a house with good bones and will do some minor renovations but then probably build our dream home on the block one day.

“The most important thing for us was having a home to bring our son to when he was born.”
