A young local family has paid the highest price for a Brisbane house this financial year after forking out more than $12m on a palatial riverside mansion with 10 bedrooms and an entertaining area for 100 guests.
The sale was closed on Friday, ending an almost four year search for new owners.
Sources say the buyers made an unconditional cash offer of $12.5m for 121 King Arthur Terrace, Tennyson that blew four other seriously interested parties, including an international and Sydney buyer, out of the water.
The decadent home has 10 bedrooms, including a three-bedroom guesthouse, eight bathrooms, five car parks and sits on a 3593sq m block, across three titles.
There is also a 12-seat cinema, wine cellar and a boat pavilion.
“The five-bedroom main residence, incorporates three separate levels, drawing inspiration from the luxurious coastal reaches of Sarasota in America‘s Southeast, the sales pitch read.
“A stunning riverside pavilion with a full kitchen and bathroom provides enough space to easily entertain over 100 people.”
Vendors Jane and Mark Brodie raised their six children there.
The house last sold, according to CoreLogic, in 2004 for $4.2m. It now has a land value of $4.8m.
It had been on the market for more than three years before it was relisted by Place Bulimba agent and Place co-managing director Sarah Hackett.
“I’m not at liberty to comment on the sale, but the property is truly one of a kind in Brisbane.” Ms Hackett.
Overall, it’s the second highest sale this calendar year after 1 Leopard St, Kangaroo Point changed hands in May for $15m.
