Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue his wave of deadly strikes on Gaza despite the world condemning the attacks that killed hundreds, mostly women and children.
The strikes, by far the deadliest since the truce came into force on January 19, killed more than 400 people, shattering a ceasefire in place since January.
“Hamas has already felt the strength of our hand in the past 24 hours. And I want to promise you - and them - this is only the beginning,” Mr Netanyahu said in a televised address.
All further ceasefire negotiations will take place “under fire,” the Israeli PM said. The White House said it had been consulted and voiced support for Israel’s actions.
The new campaign comes as aid groups warn that supplies are running out, two weeks after Israel halted all food, medicine, fuel, and other essentials to Gaza’s two million Palestini“Unfortunately, we are witnessing a situation in which we have an intolerable level of suffering for the Palestinian people, with the air raids that killed hundreds of people,” UN chief Antonio Guterres told reporters in Geneva.
The deadly attacks has also raised concerns about the fate of the approximately two dozen Israeli hostages still believed to be alive and held by Hamas.
