Iran has issued a chilling threat in reaction to Donald Trump’s demand to surrender its war with Israel, warning of a “major surprise tonight”, one it claims the world will “remember for centuries”.
Iranian state TV’s warning comes as Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei pushed back against growing pressure from the United States, declaring that the Iranian people “are not one to surrender”. His comments came a day after Donald Trump described Khamenei as an “easy target” whom he said he had chosen not to kill – for now and called for Tehran’s “unconditional surrender”.
Khamenei shunned Mr Trump’s demand to make a peace deal, replying “the battle begins” as Iran and Israel continued to fire missile barrages that have killed hundreds since the conflict began six days ago.
“Let the Americans know that the Iranian nation is not one to surrender, and any military intervention on their part will undoubtedly result in irreparable damage,” Khamenei said in a national address on Wednesday.
“Those who are wise and familiar with Iran, its people, and its history never speak to this nation in the language of threats.”
When Mr Trump was questioned on whether the US would join Israeli strikes on Iran up, he said: “I may do it, I may not do it. I mean, nobody knows what I’m going to do”.
The current conflict has lasted six days, with global leaders now urging for peace before it spirals further.
