Israel-Iran conflict: Australia shuts Tehran embassy, Trump decision on Iran in weeks

ADF personnel and aircraft are being deployed to the Middle East as Australia ordered all officials and their families to leave Iran. Follow live updates.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong just announced Australia will be sending “defence assets” to the Middle East.

It comes after Australia shuttered its embassy in Tehran and directed all Australian officials and their dependants to leave “based on advice about the deteriorating security environment in Iran”.

Meanwhile Iran and Israel continue to trade strikes with Tehran showering Israel with missiles and drones, hitting a major medical centre.

It comes as Donald Trump indicated a US strike on Iran is not imminent as he gives Tehran a final chance to abandon its uranium enrichment program.

In a press briefing, White House Press Secretary read a statement from the President.

“Based on the fact that there’s a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks,” Ms Leavitt said, quoting the president.

She added: “If there’s a chance for diplomacy, he’s not afraid to grab it.”
