We will always make sure you get the very best in news

Since 1952 the Northern Territory News has been providing news to Territorians - so we weren’t going to shy away from covering Tropical Cyclone Fina.

As severe Tropical Cyclone Fina barrelled towards the Northern Territory, the team at the NT News did not shy away, they assembled.

From Nightcliff to Palmerston and Darwin City, a dedicated team of journalists, photographers, printers and delivery drivers worked around the clock to ensure Territorians were kept up to date with the cyclone’s latest developments.

Since 1952 the NT News has been dedicated to providing the news that matters to Territorians no matter the situation - because we’re for you.

When Cyclone Tracy devastated our great city 50 years ago, the NT News still managed to print an edition, albeit a one-pager, despite its own offices being destroyed by the storm.

So our staff and crew were not going to let Cyclone Fina, the most powerful cyclong to threaten Darwin since Tracy, stop us from getting the news out to Territorians.

We serves one-sixth of the country covering an area of 1.2 million square kilometres or about twice the size of Texas.

Fina pummelled Darwin and neighbouring island communities for close to 12 hours.

From dawn to midnight, the small team pitched to provide a rolling minute by minute multimedia coverage of the unfolding events of cyclone Fina’s full fury.

All while producing a printed edition, and two special digital editions.

When it was safe to do so, the NT News’ dedicated delivery team was out dropping off bundles of papers to retailers and front doors.

Torrential rain and powerful winds welcomed dawn in Darwin on Sunday with the city and suburbs battered as Tropical Cyclone Fina began to track west.

The NT News team has been back out there again continuing to bring the latest on the emergency situation to residents.

That’s why we really are for you.
