Boys aged 14 and 16 have been charged over a stabbing on a Preston bus which left another teen fighting for life.

Detectives from the transit crime investigation unit arrested the pair in Albert Park on Saturday night over the horrific attack on Murray St.

The violent ordeal broke out on-board the R903 bus line between Altona-Mordialloc, operated by transport company Kinetic, in front of horrified passengers on Friday afternoon.

A 14-year-old Heidelberg West boy has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury, affray and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

Police said he had been remanded by a bail justice to appear before a remand court for children.

A 16-year-old boy from Albert Park faces counts of possessing a prohibited weapon without exemption and was bailed to face a children’s court at a later date.

The victim, 17, of Reservoir, was stabbed after an altercation on a bus last Friday at 4.15pm.

“It is believed the injured teen is currently in a serious condition,” a Victoria Police statement issued on Sunday said.

One female driver who was stopped at the traffic lights of Murray Rd and High St as the attack unfolded revealed the injured teen tried to enter surrounding vehicles to escape.

He was bleeding profusely from an apparent wound to his neck, according to the eye witness.

Many residents told the Herald Sun they were reluctant to speak publicly on the matter as they feared it would spur revenge attacks on their own school-aged children.

It echoed similar concerns shared in recent weeks in the wake of Pasawn Lyhym’s alleged fatal knifing at Sunshine station, which forced two schools to beef-up security in response.

A Kinetic spokesman told the Herald Sun the bus company was working with Victoria Police amid ongoing investigations.

“Kinetic is committed to ensuring everyone feels safe when travelling on Victoria’s public transport network,” the spokesman said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at crimestoppersvic.com.au.
