The mother of a teen charged with the stabbing murder of schoolboy Pasawm Lyhym was forced to move out of home after she received “credible threats”, a court has heard.
The 17-year-old fronted a children’s court on Wednesday afternoon where he faced a charge of murder over the death of Pasawm, 16, near Sunshine train station on May 18.
In objecting against the public release of material relating to the case, the teen’s lawyer told the children’s court that his mother had received “credible threats”.
“That’s actually led police to contact her and suggest she move out of the address,” said the defence lawyer.
The magistrate declined to release the charge sheet to the media, which detailed a single count of murder.
The boy – labelled by his lawyer as “the main suspect in this homicide” – sat in the dock for the short remand hearing, flanked by two officers.
His parents sat in the courtroom supported by friends, and his mum dabbed at her eyes with a tissue.
He was remanded in custody, and will return to court in October.
Homicide detectives charged the 17-year-old with murder after he handed himself in to Keilor Downs police station on Tuesday night.
The arrest comes after a near two-week hunt for the killer who attacked the Melton South boy at Sunshine train station on May 18.
Two other teenage boys, aged 17 and 18, had also been interviewed but released pending further investigation from police.
The shocking daylight stabbing also left two other boys, 16, with injuries, with one hospitalised and the other treated at the scene.
It follows Pasawm’s emotional funeral service on Saturday, during which loved ones remembered him as a “beautiful boy” with a passion for martial arts.
