A victim of youth crime in Townsville says her heart goes out to the troubled group of boys — some as young as 10 — who broke into her home and stole her cars.
A group of about nine young boys were caught on CCTV breaking into a home on Orana Court, Castle Hill, as the homeowners slept inside about 2.39am on Monday.
The kids — some who appear as young as 10 — were seen sizing up some of the bicycles in the family’s garage before eventually taking off with two cars, a red Kia Picanto hatchback and a white Ford Everest station wagon.
The homeowner, who didn’t wish to be named, said she was shocked to see how young some of the intruders were.
Rather than ridiculing them, she believes the kids needed “a lot of love and help” instead.
“I don’t forgive them, but my heart goes out to them, the community they live in and their families,” she said.
“To think these young kids are downstairs while mine are upstairs sleeping safely is sad.
“I really hope that community pathways are there so we can help if there’s any way we can because it’s obviously a community that needs everybody’s assistance.
Police were able to recover the white Ford Everest station wagon on Nathan St, Aitkenvale, after successfully deploying tyre spikes about 5am on Monday.
The red Kia Picanto hatchback was located bogged in bushland a short time later.
Police investigations are ongoing.
