An armed woman who robbed a man outside The Ville is believed to be linked to another terrifying attempted carjacking that happened less than an hour earlier in Townsville.

District Duty Officer Brett Smith said police were investigating after an attempted armed robbery that occurred in North Ward about 9.30pm on Sunday.

He said three suspects — two women and a man — carrying “large knives” got out of a silver car and approached a couple in a vehicle parked along Landsborough St.

The couple managed to escape after the driver quickly put the car into reverse and drove away upon seeing the group approach.

Less than an hour later, a man was robbed by an armed woman in the carpark of The Ville Resort-Casino about 10.15pm.

Initial investigations indicate a woman approached and threatened the man with a broken bottle before stealing his car, a purple Holden Commodore Sedan (692 YNQ), and driving off at speed.

The woman was seen before the robbery exiting a silver vehicle with no plates.

Sergeant Smith said police suspect both incidents are linked.

They are appealing for anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at that time to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing. All suspects and cars remain outstanding at this stage.
