October floods: Darlings Downs, Lockyer Valley, Western Downs and Southern Downs flooded road closures

BOM has released next week’s weather forecast for the Darling Downs, however has warned its not over yet, as more roads are impacted by flooding. Read the full list here.

The Darling Downs can expect some sunshine in the coming days after severe weather lashed the region over the past week.

Danny Teece-Johnson from the Bureau of Meteorology said the region could see light showers today before clearing on Wednesday.

“It won’t be as bad as we’ve been seeing,” he said.

“Toowoomba could see 1-4mm on Monday and 2-6mm on Tuesday, with temps increasing into the week.

“It could be quite humid in some parts.”

Toowoomba is set to reach a maximum of 25 degrees on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, before jumping to 28 degrees on Thursday.

Friday and Saturday are expected to be in the low 20s with partly cloudy weather and no expected rainfall.

Dozens of roads across Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley were flooded at the weekend, with two people having to be rescued after their motorhome became trapped in waters in the state’s south.

Some areas in South East Queensland received a dumping of 400mm on Saturday.

A slow-moving weather system brought widespread heavy falls, with more than 100mm falling between 9am on Saturday and 7am on Sunday in at least one area. Bellethorpe, southeast of Kingaroy in the Burnett region, recorded 117mm.

A flood watch for southeast Queensland, the Wide Bay and Burnett, and the Eastern Darling Downs remained in effect on Sunday.

• Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.

• Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.

• Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
