The driver of a vehicle that crashed into a property near the centre of Toowoomba fled the scene before emergency services arrived.

The incident was reported to ambulance and police crews on the corner of Hill and Holberton streets in Newtown just before 2pm, with reports suggesting the car had crashed into the vernadah of a property that doubles as the shopfront for a quilting business.

Crews arrived less than 10 minutes later to find the blue Kia Cerato nestled into the property, but with no one nearby.

According to police, no manhunt is under way and it is understood officers are aware of who the driver might be.

The car is not believed to have been reported stolen.
