Shantae Skye Hankin convicted of using carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence

A Toowoomba woman saw in 2022 by hurling abusive and threatening messages to another woman, including ‘your life is over’ and ‘I’ll be there in a hot minute you scrag’.

A Toowoomba woman has been convicted after sending a series of vile and abusive messages to another woman, including multiple death threats, over New Year’s Eve.

Shantae Skye Hankin, 26, appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday where she pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence.

Police prosecutor Bettina Trenear told the court that from 11pm on December 31 2021 to 10am January 1 2022, Hankin sent several threatening messages to kill the victim.

The messages included threats such as “I’m going to kill you slut, watch your f---ing back” and “you stupid slut your life is over, you’re dead” as well as “I’ll be there in a hot minute you f---ing scrag … kill yourself before I do”.

Hankin’s solicitor Jag MacDonald told the court his client entered an early guilty plea, that she was genuinely remorseful and had made multiple attempts to apologise to the victim.

Mr MacDonald said there had been previous incidents between his client and the victim leading up to the threats being made.

Magistrate Howard Osborne fined Hankin $750, with a conviction recorded.
