A rescue operation is underway near a popular swimming spot, with reports of a car stuck underwater.

Reports of the submerged vehicle at Northbrook Creek near Wivenhoe Dam came in at 2.54pm on Saturday, July 5, with the Queensland Fire Department, paramedics and police all directed to the scene.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said officers spoke with the sole occupant of the vehicle who claimed to have swerved off the road while avoiding wildlife.

The occupant was able to escape the vehicle before it was submerged and was located safe and well by emergency crews around 3.40pm.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed no patients were being assessed.

Police and rescue crews remain on scene to assist with towing the vehicle from the water.
