The Queensland Police Union’s president is preparing to address the public after the second alleged shooting involving Queensland cops in the span of a week.

The head of the Queensland Police Union will address safety concerns for officers after a second person was allegedly shot by cops in the wider Darling Downs region in just five days.

QPU president Ian leavers will speak to media on Saturday, the day after officers allegedly shot a man in the abdomen who was witnessed holding a knife inside Kingaroy Hospital’s emergency department on Friday about 7.30pm.

The man believed to be in his 50s is currently fighting for his life at Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

It comes just days after Toowoomba officers fired at an alleged repeat domestic violence offender following a stand-off near the Royal Hotel on Sunday, August 5.

Douglas Nean, 45, was shot in the chest after it was alleged he stabbed his former partner at a unit on Ruthven Street.

Two police officers were injured as a result of the incident.

Mr Nean has since been charged with nine offences, including the serious assault of police officers while armed.

A police spokeswoman said the Ethical Standards Command was conducting an investigation that was subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

The QPU’s press conference is scheduled to be held in Brisbane at noon.
